By Unemployed American Jim Stewart
Greetings America: From Evanston Wyoming.
This is what can happen when good things go wrong in your home town. I hope someone can either relate to this story or perhaps offer a job that in the end makes a difference. You decide for yourselves if things are a bit harder here than other cities across America...As we sit with eviction notice in hand, all we have left is our story...Here is ours.
Evanston Wyoming: "A Snapshot From The Industrial Past" Noted for it's natural gas processing plants, horse racing industry and other things such as "The Home Of The Jamaican Bob-Sled Team" sits Evanston Wyoming, population a little under 11,000. Evanston has seen declines in revenues due to gas plant closures and also the re-location of oil field services to other locations. Rental prices have DOUBLED recently, and general wages are around 8-10, with oil services now contracted out to S.o.S around 12-14 an hour. Wyoming job service workers sit idle nowadays with little or no jobs coming in and there is nothing they can do but direct you to the web-site for jobs that don't exist in your town.
Our town is not equipped to deal with the homeless. There is a food bank that distributes some food once a week.Their resources are woefully short, once you have visited there you can understand the frustration. One can find themselves both grateful but perplexed in how to feed people with outdated cakes, pies and an occasional can of green beans or refried beans tossed in.The workers are not used to the rise of need versus resources. They are able to give out what stores and individuals can give. Meeting nutritional needs is overshadowed by the need to eat SOMETHING. Meat, Cheese, Eggs are a dream of the past. The ability to stay employed, and pay basic bills the dream of the future.
Our town is not noted for it's careers but is noted for it's flat lined job market where there is fierce competition for even dishwasher jobs. A resume is rarely required here for most jobs.
My Job vs Career: "What Can Happen To You In Your Home Town". I never really wanted to do it, but I learned to do it right. I have worked in the restaurant biz for over 25 years, here in my home town I have cooked and done a fine job. I worked at a resort for 8 years. I have finally worked at almost EVERY place in town. I recently gave up a job at a XXXXX-XXX after one year of service, in order to help open a NEW restaurant. To make a long story short, it did not work out as promised or expected. I found myself having to explain this to my sweetheart and try for unemployment. I have finally over the years have been everywhere. There are little choices in the field of cooks jobs here, mix that in with $172.00 a week for unemployment. Job prospects are grim and dismal at best...........
My Career Choice "Why It doesn't work in Wyoming" Wyoming is not known for it's multimedia wizards. We are also not noted for our recording engineers either. And Wyoming is virtually unknown for any real music things. I have worked around Synths keyboards and recording/editing/composing since the beginning of MIDI. One must pay the bills. A career of this choice is not possible nor is it reality. Even though we live 45 minutes from Park City we are not really able to get real work. Most work during SUNDANCE is farmed out to unpaid "interns" for experience. Over the years I've done this:
http://www.youtube.com/user/NorthernLightsRadio I have hundreds of hours/decades of self composed titles but have never been able to be taken seriously in this age of music site fakes out there .New-Age Keyboardist/Editor/Composer by career choice. Unemployed cook by force. Paying the bills came first. I have been keyboardless for 5 years now. Because bills came first, I have used my jobs to help me pay for career stuff. Over the years and the economy I gave up the internet radio station I had run for almost 8 years, simply not enough time to run it during our current crisis..Never enough money to put up a real DEMO website, without having to host "ads". If you need Adobe Audition,VEGAS,SFX/FOLEY/New-Age/"Hearts-Of-Space" compo music/EDITING.There is none to match.Audio/Video skills too. Given a real opportunity for a career/relocation or someone looking for a chance to find the next "Yanni". I have the material to back this up.
I will WALK to your location for the right career. All we are asking America for is a real career for a serious minded guy, with talent, skills, squeaky clean background. What I need is a real miracle which doesn't come to Evanston Wyoming very often. I've never had the chance to have a career. And after receiving bad news about my wife's health I am desperate for anything except working in our local SEX-XXX store "cleaning the floors in the video room". Don't want a bailout, just a CAREER. There is no stimulus package for the real "working-stiff" who doesn't have a mortgage, a credit card, and pays their bills. Because we don't have a mortgages or incur real debt we are written off.
Help us America I'm allmost 50 and washed up and out in Wyoming.
