Hello! I'm a Newbie.

By Dawn Rager

Hello!  I recently read about this site from another online article and thought I'd give it a whirl.  I'm currently "employed," but I'll be laid off from work -- due to downsizing -- at the end of this month (March).  I've been employed with my current employer for 4 years.

I'm presently a technical writer in the IT field, but I have many other professional skills, including Corporate Communications and Human Resources (Please see my resume.).  I'm particularly interested in a full-time, telecommute position (with less than 25% travel).  Although I would welcome another writing/editing opportunity, I'm also open to pursuing a new career and new line of work.  With the economy like it is right now, I'm guessing most all job seekers are open to new kinds of work (just so long as it is work, right?).

I'm located in a small, western PA town (Johnstown), and the economy here is already a challenge to begin with.  My husband and I just moved our family back here a few years ago to be closer to our families and to return to the comfort of "home" and the area (We moved out to eastern PA right after we got married to find new jobs.).   The cost of living here is very low here and it generally is a great place to raise a family (very low key and "uneventful" for the most part).

I'm at a crossroads.  I don't want to have to move my family again.  I'm hoping and praying that the economy will pick up soon and the opportunities will soon follow!  My husband also works full-time, but we can't survive on just one income, unfortunately.

Anyway, I look forward to chatting with some of you on here and maybe we can help each other.  I offer resume consulting services (in a freelance capacity) and often provide tips as a courtesy to other job seekers.  Please feel free to contact me if you're needing some assistance.  I, also, am very involved with both online and in-person networking.  I think it's key to successful job searches and the sharing of ideas for both individuals and businesses.

Good luck, and keep your chins up!
